The North Plympton is a small township in South Australia about 10 kilometers north of Glenelg on the road between Adelaide and Port Adelaide. It was first settled in 1858 by Benjamin Davies who stocked it with 2,000 sheep. The town was the center for wool farming in the region, with the first wool shearing in Australia held there in 1870. In 1904 the South Plympton railway station opened, providing service to the nearby port of Port Adelaide.

North Plympton is a small village in Cornwall, England, that was the site of a major battle during the English Civil War in 1643. The battle pitted the Royalist army under Prince Maurice of Orange against the Parliamentarians led by Sir Edward Montagu, who also happened to be the Earl of Manchester. The battle was a crucial victory for the Royalists and heralded the start of the King’s Siege of Basing House.
The main industries of North Plympton are fishing, the mining of coal, and the mining of iron ore. It is also the home to the Forestry Commission. The proprietors at Wildfowl & Fur in North Plympton have taken on the new task of caring for the town’s ducks, geese, and swans, and their feathered friends are getting the best of care.
There are two Biscuits & Bread manufacturers in North Plympton: C.A. Barton, who was in business from 1869 to 1960; and Charles Baker, who began in the same place in 1850. Charles Baker is still producing biscuits and bread in the original bakery today, but the current business was started by his son in 1984.
