Glenelg Beach
Glenelg Beach is close to Adelaide’s CBD, and the beach was once used for training during the second world war. Glenelg Beach is a large beach on Glenelg South Esplanade, which is relatively secluded because of its location between Glenelg North and Glenelg South beaches. The beach is made up of soft golden sand, backed by large dunes which provide shade. The beach is patrolled by lifesavers during the summer months.
We sat down with these guys and had a lovely chat. Their names are Oliver and John, and they’re the resident DJs of the Glenelg Hotel in Glenelg, SA. They’ve been on at the Glenelg Hotel for a couple of years now, and have really made the place a bit of a hub for the local community. The Glenelg Tram departs every 20 minutes or so and the 25 minute journey is filled with stunning coastal views, you can get off at Glenelg but you can also get off at the bypass and take in the views of the coast along the way.
There is an excellent cafe near the beach to grab a coffee or a bite to eat after your walk.
If you walk further along the beach and cross the road, you will find an amazing playground, ideal for children. It is never too early to start planning your family holiday, and Glenelg Beach is one of the best places in Adelaide to bring the kids. There are plenty of family friendly things to do in Glenelg Beach, so you can spend a fun-filled day in Adelaide.
Glenelg is located about 30 minutes drive from Adelaide’s CBD. The beach is about 13 kilometres from the city center and is easily accessible by car, bus or bike. Getting there by car: Exit the city from North Terrace and go south. Turn left into Hackney Road. Keep driving until you get to the traffic lights at the intersection of King William Road and Port Road. Continue following King William Road out of the city. Continue on South Road and at the 4-way stop at the top of the South Road hill, turn right into South Road. Turn right into Brighton Road and then turn right into Glenelg Parade. The beach is about 500 meters down Glenelg Parade.
Glenelg is about 25 km south of Adelaide and is a nice beach to visit in the South Australian summer, especially if you have kids.
1. By car, travel south along the Anzac Highway (A18) after it exits the city. This is a limited-access 100km/h road and takes about 25 minutes.
2. Turn right towards Glenelg at the roundabout (known as the Traffic Circle) in front of the Adelaide Airport.
3. Turn right again at the roundabout near the Glenelg Surf Club. This will take you along King William Street.
4. After crossing the Glenelg Railway Line, turn left into Beach Road.
People come and go to Glenelg Beach in Adelaide for many reasons. Its a great beach for families with lots of waves for kids to play in, nice cafes and playgrounds, free parking and free public toilets. Its also close to the city so is good for a day trip. Most importantly its a great beach with a lot of atmosphere especially at the end of the beach by the jetty with the yachts and boats which has a great view.
Glenelg Beach is located in Adelaide, South Australia and is a very popular tourist attraction within the state. It also has a number of its own features that attract people to it every year.
A swim in Glenelg Beach is a nice way to cool down at the beach. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the road side of Glenelg and the beach.Glenelg Beach is one of Adelaide’s top destinations for the family. It’s a gorgeous little sea side town that’s perfect for a day out for the whole family. There are over 3km of white sands to play on, a great beachfront playground, beachside cafes and restaurants, and plenty of watersports to enjoy.
